On the 26th day of this month, more patients attended a tea party very kindly given by the cloistered sisters of our Order. The afternoon was well attended with everyone having a wonderful time in the parlour hall of the Monastery which was so attractively decorated for Christmas with life size nativity figures in a crib and Christmas lights blinking all around. The homemade refreshments were as always so delicious and in no time everything was devoured during this relaxing afternoon. Maltese Association President Philip Farrugia Randon surprised the crowd by sneaking away unnoticed. He then joined in again disguised as Father Christmas, this to the delight of all the patients, children and the nuns themselves who were so happy to see everyone so cheerful and happy! The afternoon came to an end with a beaming Father Christmas handing out small gifts to the patients. The nuns really went out of their way to give their best to this lovely festive reunion, which made it the more a cherished and memorable activity for one and all!
Prison Ministry Members visited the YOURS Correctional Facility in Mtahleb and handed out gifts and chocolates to the young inmates for Christmas. The boys appreciate the time we share with them and are so thankful for all we do for them. Four boys in particular, have taken a keen interest in cooking, drawing and music. The Prison Ministry project is now going into its third year and we feel so rewarded to see us accepted as their sincere friends. A special bond has been forged and we know that these lovely boys look forward and count the days to the next Maltese Association fortnightly visit. Caring for them, boosts their confidence and encourages them to keep trying to improve their way of life by learning from their past mistakes.
This month our Lourdes patients were spoilt with more than one activity. On the 17th of the month our special friends were entertained at the luxurious Corinthia San Gorg hotel which was beautifully decorated for Christmas. The hotel management took great pains to prepare a lovely and mouth-watering spread of eats with teas, coffees and beverages flowing throughout the afternoon. The patients enjoyed themselves in a relaxed and jovial atmosphere. The laughter and cheerful conversations never seized for one minute!
The Maltese Association once again organised a Christmas children’s film show at the Eden Cinemas for 150 children coming from orphanages and various child care centres and homes around the island.
The kids started arriving at the cinema in the early afternoon as always so keen and looking forward to this yearly appointment with us ! They queued up with their carers to collect their soft drinks.
Some members, this afternoon were happy to donate some of their time to prepare a hundred hampers for the poor and underprivileged. Other members were even kind to contribute financial support, toiletries, sweets and toys towards this worthy cause. SMART Supermarkets unfailingly provided the food bags and to them we are so thankful every year.
Over two hundred and fifty children from various child care programme centres, organisations and orphanages attended the Maltese Association annual Christmas Party that took place once again at the Grand Hotel Excelsior in Floriana.
The Grand Exhibition hall soon filled in with young children who spent the best part of the afternoon running around, dancing, singing and enjoying the cheerful and jovial performances and games organised by the brilliant ‘After Glow Events’ team of animators, who proficiently managed to captivate the children’s attention throughout the party. Some of the animators were dressed up as elves with costumes in bright red and green, whilst a few others wore Disney characters. They mingled amongst the excited kids providing plenty of fun and laughter. The children were then entertained by a magician who together with the animators also took part in his show, where performed many tricks. The children were so eager to join in the fun that they crowded around the magician and animators, to climb on the stage!
