Maltese Association

Order of Malta

Members and Volunteers participating in the Maltese Association’s Prison Ministry treated all young male inmates detained at the Young Offenders Unit Rehabilitation Services (YOURS) at Mtahleb to a lavish summer barbeque on Thursday 23 August 2018.

This now well-established event in the Prison Ministry’s annual calendar, alongside the thanksgiving supper held over the Christmas period provides us with an excellent opportunity to meet these youngsters on an informal basis, imparting some good fatherly advice whilst sharing supper at the same table with them.

In this way we also demonstrate that we have never quite forgotten that our very Prison Ministry, which has since migrated to the main prison building at Corradino, originally took root at the Young Offenders’ Unit.

Our efforts are always very much appreciated, and provide our guests with a living example of what it means to be altruistic and sensitive to the needs of others.

Mr Gordon Formosa, who now heads the Unit, was also in attendance, tucking in heartily along with other members of his staff seated on the Officers’ table.

The Maltese Association is eternally grateful to Mr Joe Mangion and his wife Mrs Bernardette Mangion for attending to all the catering requirements, and very much in abundance at that; as well as to Mrs. Louisette Sant Manduca, of Fontanella fame, for generously providing the delicious cake served as dessert treat.
