International Holiday Camp 2018
Over 500 young people with disabilities and volunteers come together today in the UK for a once in a lifetime week of fun, friendship and adventure. Guests have the opportunity to kayak, horse-ride, fly in light aircraft, SCUBA dive, and try indoor skydiving. The volunteers aim to provide their guests with a holiday they will never forget.
Delegations travel from 23 countries around the world to take part in the camp from the 11th – 18th August 2018. Recent camps have been held in France, the Netherlands, Ireland and Austria. Guests receive 24-hour care from volunteer helpers of the same age often resulting in lifelong friendships.
Camp is more than just a break from daily routine it’s an opportunity to get out in the world and be inspired by what it has to offer.
The volunteers are a group of young people committed to giving people with disabilities opportunities and experiences away from their day to day lives.
The Maltese contingent participating in the Order’s International Holiday Camp (Malta Camp) that departed to Hampshire this morning, consists of 11 volunteers and 9 guests. The team is ably led by Daniel Benson Camilleri whereas Fr Savio Vella is the accompanying Chaplain of the Maltese Association. Ms Rachel Barthet is the team nurse.
To get a real feel of camp one needs to see what they get up to! Each camp produces a video, from indoor skydiving to scuba diving – the guests have tried it all!
The Maltese Association would like to thank the sponsors and the young volunteers that made the participation in this international event possible.
