Our confrére Mr. Chris Galea, President of the Order of Malta Volunteers in Gozo, read the second reading.

Mgr Renato Borg delivered a special homily on St. John the Baptist as our patron saint was especially revered over the centuries by a number of pontiffs including the incumbent Pope Francis himself.

The High Mass was attended by the Mayor of Xewkija, Mr Paul Azzopardi as well as by the Xewkija Local council. A large delegation from Castelvenere, being the city which is twinned to Xewkija, led by Mayor Mr Mario Scetta was also present,

as were a significant number of migrants from all parts of the globe.

After Mass, Archpriest Mgr. Daniel Xerri invited all special guests who participated in the proceedings to a reception in the sacristy.
