Shelter For Homeless Youth Project

The Maltese Association, in partnership with the National Federation of Past Pupils and Friends of Don Bosco, has recently embarked on a new Shelter for Homeless Youth Project.

This involves the conversion of an old terraced house at No. 100, Sammat Road, Paola, very kindly made available by the Salesians of Don Bosco, into a modern residential unit to be named the Alberto Marvelli Residence, allowing for the creation of independent living quarters for three (3) qualifying residents at a time over a temporary period, coupled with a unique mentoring programme which is to be intrinsically linked to the making available of such facilities.

Construction works on site have already commenced, thanks in part to a generous grant which has been awarded to the Maltese Association for this particular Project by the Order of Malta’s Global Fund for Forgotten People in its St. John’s Day 2017 cycle of awards, as well as to a further equally generous grant made available by the Ministry for Family and Social Solidarity.

The Shelter for Homeless Youth is scheduled to be completed with a period of one year from now, when it will immediately become functional.

This will be an ongoing hospitaller Project, initially being run as a pilot project, in the running of which the Association is expected to remain closely involved.
