INTER-RELIGIOUS PRAYER SERVICE FOR PEACE AND THE VICTIMS OF THE GREAT SIEGE
All participants came together at Vittoriosa for the inter-religious prayer service for peace and to pray for those who died during the Great Siege of Malta. After robing at the Coeuvre Port, the participants set off in a procession to St Lawrence Church, the former conventual church of the Order of St John.
During the inter-religious prayer service, the Introduction was made by the new archpriest of Vittotiosa, Fr Joe Mizzi . His Grace the Archbishop Mgr Charles J. Scicluna, H.E. Frà. Ludwig Hoffmann von Rumerstein, the Grand Commander of the Sovereign Military and Hospitaller Order of St John Of Jerusalem of Rhodes and of Malta, and Imam Mohammed ElSadi recited prayers for peace and for the dead.
Afterwards, all participants gathered at the central square of Vittoriosa for a wreath lying ceremony at the Great Siege monument. The Honourable Minister for Justice, Culture and Local Government Dr Owen Bonnici, His Grace the Archbishop, H.E. Frà. Ludwig Hoffmann von Rumerstein, Imam Mohammed ElSadi and the Mayor of Vittoriosa, Mr John Boxal laid a wreath at the monument, while engaging in a short moment of contemplation.
