Pontifical Mass at St John’s Co-Cathedral Valletta

One of the highlights of the State visit paid to Malta by H.M.E.H Fra Matthew Festing, Prince and Grand Master of the Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of St John of Jerusalem of Rhodes and of Malta was the Solemn Celebration of the Holy Eucharist at St John’s Co-Cathedral on Thursday 16th April.

The Pontifical Mass was led by His Grace Mgr Charles J. Scicluna, Archbishop of Malta and attended by H.E. The President of Malta Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, The Hon. Prime Minister Dr Joseph Muscat as well as various Maltese dignitaries, members of the diplomatic corps and senior civil servants.

Sixty five knights, dames, and donati processed from Casa Lanfreducci and took their places in the Co-Cathedral. They were also joined by members of MASMOM’s voluntary organisations.

The celebration was attended by Chaplains of the Order and the Co-Cathedral choir.

In his homily the Archbishop drew a parallel between “ obsequium pauperum et tuitio fidei “ and the situation being faced around us every day where hundreds of people are losing their lives sometimes as a result of their religious beliefs, persecution and lack of tolerance.
