St John’s Co-Cathedral Memorial Service for the Fallen Members of the Order during the Great Siege of 1565.
Members of the Maltese Association together with a group of members from the Federal American Association visiting Malta, gathered in the sacristy of St John’s Co-Cathedral in Valletta for the traditional memorial service for those members of the Order who gave their life in the defense of Christianity during the Great Siege of 1565.
Towards the end of High Mass, Members of the Order processed together with H.G. the Archbishop, Mgr Paul Cremona to the Great Siege Memorial Graveyard where prayers of remembrance were offered for those Knights who lost their lives during the Siege of 1565. After prayers the Maltese Association President H.E. Philip Farrugia Randon and H.E. Geoff Gamble, Member on Sovereign Council, laid a wreath of remembrance at the foot of the memorial in remembrance of those who gave their life in the defense of Christianity during the Great Siege of 1565.
The procession then moved back inside the Co-Cathedral to the grave of one of the great heroes of the Great Siege, Fra’ Don Melchior de Robles, which is situated in the Chapel of the Langue of Auvergne, dedicated to St Sebastian, where prayers were again offered for the repose of his soul, before then processing for a memorial prayer at the tomb of Grand Master Jean Parisot de la Valette. Following this last memorial prayer High Mass was concluded and members of the Association processed back to the Sacristy.
